Lead is the traditional choice for period and listed properties — conservation officers prefer it, and lead's malleability allows perfect detailing around complex chimney geometries. Codeflash is appropriate for modern properties where speed matters more than heritage aesthetics, and for quick repairs where full leadwork isn't justified. A chimney saddle (or cricket) is a small peaked structure behind the chimney that diverts water around rather than into the abutment. Chimneys on low-pitch roofs or wider chimneys require saddles to prevent water pooling behind the stack. Saddles are typically Code 6 lead, welded into a continuous sheet, and counter-flashed into the brickwork.
Our installations include: stainless steel clip fixings (not iron nails) allowing thermal movement, adequate upstand height (minimum 75mm above roof surface), cover flashing cemented into the brickwork with movement allowance, and lead expansion joints on long runs. Proper detailing at specification stage prevents future failures.

We erect compliant scaffold systems and include all access equipment in our quotes. For listed buildings, we install scaffold with padding to protect decorative stonework.
In most cases, yes — flashing can be repaired or replaced without disturbing the chimney structure itself. We rake out and renew mortar where flashing embeds in brickwork, replace damaged lead sections, and renew clips and fixings. Only if the chimney brickwork is severely deteriorated does full rebuild become necessary.
